Jay-Z's Watch Collection
Jay-Z needs no introduction (we’ll give you a brief one anyway). He’s a rapper, producer, designer, publisher, and, most importantly, a very serious watch collector. Jay has been seen wearing a bevy of high-end watches since he emerged on the rap scene in 1992, and once his 1996 debut album,Reasonable Doubt, became an instant classic, Jigga stepped his timepiece game up to elite status with a host of pieces that the average man has probably never heard of -- but that’s what you want with a good watch. Here are 10 of the watches Jay has worn over the years, including a few he played a big role in.
No.10 Rolex GMT Master II
Jay-Z may not actually own this one, but it is rumoured that he and Kanye gave customised Rolex GMT Masters to the sound engineers who kept Watch the Throne from being pirated. If that’s the case, there are some seriously valuable GMTs circulating with a caseback you just can’t make up.

No.9 Richard Mille DLC Tourbillon
Jay-Z wore this DLC tourbillon from Richard Mille at the Watch the Throne release party, and he counts the brand as one of his all-time favourites. These watches cost several hundred thousand dollars, and Jay’s is very similar to the one worn by Rafa Nadal.

No.8 Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Rubber Clad
Jay wore the Rubber Clad on the cover of Gotham Magazine. The Rubber Clad is actually one of the less expensive Audemars Piguet watches he owns and has been spotted in. It’s a casual chronograph with a rubberized bezel, pusher and straps.
No.7 TW Steel TW-22
Not every watch Jay-Z wears costs a lot of money. He wore a $500 oversize TW Steel watch on the Bill Maher show, and actually received a lot of praise for supporting a small, inexpensive watch brand.
No.6 Rolex Day-Date II (In Platinum)
The Day-Date II in platinum is one of the most expensive watches Rolex has ever made, and it doesn’t have a single diamond on it. The DDII is sized at 41mm, which is actually a very large size for a Rolex. He wore this one on The Daily Show last year.
No.5 Richard Mille (In Titanium)
Jay-Z was asked to be on the cover of the special 15th anniversary cover of Vibe magazine, and the watch he chose? Back to Richard Mille. He has also been seen wearing Richard Mille while on stage on many occasions.
No.4 Rolex Day-Date (In Yellow Gold)
This could be described as the ultimate “baller's” watch, and Jay has been wearing one for years. This is the original Day-Date and is sized at two millimeters smaller than the Day-Date II (No. 6 on this list). If there is one watch that Jay-Z should be known for, it’s the yellow-gold Day-Date from Rolex.

Jay took the honourable step of helping out his friends at Audemars Piguet by donating his personal Las Vegas Strip limited-edition tourbillon for its charity event in 2010. The watch ended up selling for over $200,000.
No.1 Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Jay-Z Edition
You’ve gotta be someone special to have AP dedicate an entire watch to you, but then again, Jay-Z is definitely someone. This special edition came out in 2005 with Jay-Z’s signature engraved on the caseback, a special diamond-filled “10” and an iPod preloaded with Jay’s albums to date.

Panerai and Ralph Lauren--The Language of Design

American Designer, Ralph Lauren has been a huge vintage Panerai collector for many years, and has amassed quite a collection of rare vintage Panerai watches. Ralph Lauren is pictured below in front of his vintage 1950 Series 1 Land Rover, sporting a 1954 47MM Vintage Panerai [Reference 6152] from his personal watch collection.

The second photo below appears courtesy of Esquire Magazine, and shows one of Ralph Lauren's vintage Panerai watches with a Marina Militare designation on the dial. This beautiful watch is a Reference 6152:1, which was made by Rolex and features a Rolex Brevet winding crown. This photo was taken in the Polo New York Flagship store which was formerly the Rhinelander Mansion.
The photo above also pictures a Leica M9 camera, which, despite looking like it is a vintage camera, is actually a state-of-the-art digital model which features the smallest full-frame digital sensor. Ralph Lauren has a huge passion for collecting rare items that are timeless and have endured as icons of superb design.

Our Mascot Mufassa
So many customers have asked us 'How much?' for that lion in the window. But we here at Gold Coast could and never would see our brave friend Mufassa.
Mufassa is an authentic lion. Sadly he past away of natural causes while at a zoo in California. When we saw him for the first time, we had to find a rightful place for our majestic friend.
Mufassa greets all our customers with a royal "Hello", and graces Jericho Turnpike with his thrilling presence.

Redbridge small business owners are increasingly turning to pawnbrokers to secure loans, according to the regional manager of a national pawnbroking chain.
They are using high value items such as watches and jewellery to gain the loans, which are frequently used to cover cash flow, to buy stock or to fund refurbishments.
Mark Harrold, the regional manager of H&T Pawnbrokers, which has two Ilford stores in Cranbrook Road and High Road, said: “Business loans have always happened but we’ve seen an upturn in the demand.
“An example is a customer buying a restaurant. They needed £20,000 to clinch the deal. We agreed a loan and it was repaid within a month.”
H&T has operated its Cranbrook Road site for more than 10 years and opened up in High Road in the last year.
It offers four main services – pawnbroking, gold buying, jewellery retail and financial services, including cheque cashing and payday and short-term loans.
The company lent £15,000 to a building contractor who used watches as collateral.
Addy Archodakis, manager of the Cranbrook Road shop, said: “We give customers all the information, everything is in front of them and they can feel comfortable and we lay out what will be repaid. It’s not the old pawnbroking of taking stuff and selling it on.”
Pawnbroking remains the company’s main source of business out of its Cranbrook Road store, with £150 to £200 the average amount lent against items.
There is an 80 per cent retention rate of goods for customers nationally, according to Mr Harrold.
And he said the High Road store “offered an opportunity because it is more central” and it hasn’t “affected the first store detrimentally”.
The Ilford stores have made 125 business loans this year, with a total value of around £100,000.
The two biggest loans in Ilford in 2013 have been for £2,900 and £3,200

The case can be made out of different materials such as precious metals like platinum, gold and silver or less valuable one like titanium or steel. It can also be gold plated.
The materials are described below: 1) The Platinum used for making watch cases is an alloy that contains 950 parts per 1000.
2) Gold: the precious metal that is most used for the manufacture of cases on luxury watches. The most valuable cases are those made of more than 750 parts per thousand, but in order to reduce costs without losing the right to call them "gold", some cases are also produced in alloys with 585 and 385 parts per thousand. The gold color of the case depends on the metal that is used in the alloy.
3) Titanium: is a space age metal that is proving increasingly attractive to the
production of watch cases for its high strength to weight ratio. It is
antimagnetic, does not provoke any allergies and does not corrode. It has a pearl-gray color and a smooth surface and its appearance changes with the light.
4) Gold Plating: in this case, the case is made out of brass and it is then
subjected to special treatments such as copper and nickel plating, needed to
ensure the adherence of the coatings obtained by dipping the case in a gold bath
that attaches to the substrate by electrolysis. The thickness of the coating is generally 10 or 20 microns (one micron equals 1 / 1000 mm). Another procedure, used more rarely because of its costs is lamination which establishes a thin gold foil on a sheet metal (or alloy) such as brass or steel.
Watch complecations and capabilities.
A complication is an extra function supported by a watch other than simple timekeeping thus containing movements and mechanisms prepared to perform those functions.
The most common are:
The chronograph: is a highly appreciated function; a chronograph watch also supports stopwatch capabilities alongside the normal timekeeping functionality.
The stopwatch is independent and does not interfere with the regular timekeeping.
Chronometer: This term indicates that the clock has passed stringent tests

The tourbillon is a major complication for the wristwatch and represents an element of great value.
Water resistance
There are two general types of water resistant watches:
